"C3 Industrial" has long been the industrial tools division of C3 International, LLC. In February '09, the division acquired a center of gravity all its own, as it graduated to the status of a wholly owned corporate subsidiary of C3 International, LLC. It is now poised to commercialize a newly granted license for C3 International's patented thin-film MIST surface treatment.

MIST offers reduced wear/abrasion, reduces or eliminates corrosion/oxidation, reduces the co-efficient of friction between two metals and reduces soldering and heat checking in industrial applications. The surface treatment process is:

  • low heat, which means that many more applications are possible compared to higher heat surface treatments that can damage or distort the substrate metal, carbide or ceramic
  • does not require line of sight, which means that cylinders, pipes or other hard to get to areas can be effectively treated
  • the thin film is less than .5 microns (500 nanometers), which means that there is no requirement to undersize tools, which is the case with thicker treatments
  • is EPA friendly, which helps reduce cost of application and reduces harm to employees, the community and the environment
  • no cracking or spalling, which extends the life of tools and reduces down time

The patented MIST technology surface treatment is easy to apply with conventional ovens that heat the surface to less than 450 Celsius (842 Fahrenheit):

  • Clean - surface must be smooth and clean
  • Apply - hand or robot application with brush/sponge
  • Heat - surface must reach the chemical reaction temperature, no soaking required
  • Repeat - depending upon the application, several applications may be required
